Turner in the Tate

"A previously unseen Turner watercolour is published for the first time in The Times today after its owner’s decision to sell a collection of 14 important works".

I just love the way this painter sees colour , and is capable of putting it down on canvas, so uniquely....

And if painting is sometimes about symbolism, the one on the bottom left of this link really does it for me , in so many ways !

The thing I find fascinating about Turner's works is that, if you examine them closely, most of the colours are "wrong" and should not work. This is demonstrated to some extent in your third example where there is the large amount of ultramarine which, by the rules, should dominate the work but it doesn't - it renders it completely harmonious.

This extravagant use of "the wrong colours" can only usually be seen on the originals as reproductions normally only show the whole and not the detail. The blue in the third painting here is exceptional - and shows, similarly, how exceptional an artist Turner was.

It's well worth a visit to the Tate just for the Turners there.

.. Let's hope the Tate gets some lottery dosh, before the Olympics drain the lot for a decade ,and it gets a few ...!

If you walk backwards from a painting of his it takes form steadily.

I must put one on the verge of the M6 for you to view. :D

(Not really, it might get mud-splattered)

Thos

That would be a waste of time as the traffic on the M6 hardly ever moves, try the M4 or M40.
