Mr Ferguson said people should be told that the connection they are getting is "rate adaptive". "People see the 'eight' and that sticks in their heads. Rate adaptive ADSL means it runs as fast as the line can tolerate." I'm on Onetel (same stable) but I am still on BT line rental.And before you ask, I am not sure why, apart from inertia and the feeling that if I pay line rental to BT I may get a bit better service. I have to admit that they did actually say that in view of our distance from the exchange, I probably wouldn't achieve much more than about 3Mb.I only get 4 Mb but it's an improvement to what I could get before (1 Mb)I think we will see faster speeds next year when BT roll out ADSL2+ with speeds of (up to) 24 Mb as the technology is improved but to benefit from the fastest speeds you still need to live close to an exchange unfortunately :(I will get between 5 and 6 Mb on ADSL2+ plus a faster upstream of (up to) 1.3 Mb compared to the 448 Kb that I have now.
