Hose Pipe Bans Imminent

We have had torrential rain for several days in our area, rivers are high and low lying areas are flooded. The long range weather forecast for March and April predicts high rainfall with a risk of widespread flooding.

There is speculation that the Water Companies will introduce hosepipe bans until dry hot weather and drought conditions return. This is because all the people using hosepipes to wash cars, widows, patios etc are adding to the volume of water going down the drains and eventually to the rivers. Thus exacerbating the risk of flooding.

Conversely, when we get back to drought conditions, the use of hosepipes will help fill the rivers up again.

Could be. Especially as they have only just lifted the bans. Hence the temptation must be great.

But surly if we didn't use hosepipes then there would be less water coming out of the rivers to feed the hosepipes, so the flooding would be just as bad.

Very true they go all the way from one end to the other. The special supply pipes may be endowed with several holes. I believe Thames has cornered the market for these particular pipes.
