I've got trend micro pc cillin internet security, spybot search & detroy, ad aware and obviously windows defender/firewall installed and I want to be extra safe and I want a FREE anti keylogger program.Also I would like a free registry cleaner aswell. Is crap cleaner good for this??? I've been building and using computers more years than I like to remember but I've never found the need for anything like that.Similarly with a registry cleaner. These things seldom make any difference to the performance of a computer and some of them require to be used very carefully to avoid removing things they shouldn't - and you ending up with a non-operating machine.Ccleaner is a good program and recommended by a lot of people but even that needs to be used carefully. If you are new to it, follow the tour and instructions on the web site before using it.Why do you want to "tweak stuff and help vista run faster"? Hopefully, it will run fast enough for you, at least initially. Get used to it first and leave the "go faster stripes" until you are familiar with what it will do as it is now. As Vista is such a new operating system, I doubt if there is much software around yet that will reliably do the things you want. I would suggest leaving it a while.(At the risk of seeming terminally boring, before you do any tinkering around with your new machine, ensure you have a full system backup so that if/when something does go wrong you can get going again very quickly and with little inconvenience). It does not find external drives when you restore. I can restore from an internal drive OK - but on the one time I tried it - Windows refused to load normally afterwards and I had to carry out a Vista repair after rebooting from the Vista DVD.Acronis support are actively working on the problem and have asked me to carry out a number of experiments for them - so far, without success.I have Vista Ultimate which includes a Microsoft backup programme - perhaps that is the safest route until third party programmes can be trusted on Vista. With the anti keylogger just was wondering about that coz I know in my old computer I had hackers and I've heard about keylogging so they can see your passwords but an anti keylogging program can prevent them from seeing that, I think???? Just want to be extra secure incase a hacker does get inAbout the tweaking and wanting it to run faster, it is fast enough now yep I'm just a bit arrogant and want more lol, guess I'm still kind of use to my old pentium 3 I had for 7 years.Thanks about the registry cleaner bit, I would have to do alot of reading before running one so it doesn't delete files that are needed and other stuff so I will have to have a long look into that.Sorry I'm not really a computer expert so I may not make sense or may look like I don't know what I'm talking about lol. Alan2273 Posted April 20, 2007 Report Share Posted April 20, 2007 I have used crap cleaner for some years and use the registry cleaner every week and as long as you use the option to back up the changes you will not have a problem, I have never had one yet.Concerning your saying you do not know much about computers, we all have to start somewhere so do not be afraid to ask. The Trend-Micro security I've got has a firewall and soon conecting this computer to the old one with a router which has a firewall so I guess I should be safe but yeah coz we wouold like to try net banking but never trusted out old computer to do that I just think an anti keylogger would make it just extra safe, hopefully.. vesh Posted April 24, 2007 Author Report Share Posted April 24, 2007 Hmmm the freeware programs there seem to be ones that put keyloggers on the computer and no anti keyloggers lol.
