deuces wild Posted April 24, 2007 Report Share Posted April 24, 2007 My 19 year old son has decided to join the US Marine Corps and will leave for Parris Island on September 6th.He let us know that he wants to be a Marine about a month ago. This was after giving it a lot of thought and communicating with 2 US Marines who are son's of close friends of ours. After a year of it college he decided that college was not the thing for him at this time. To his credit he did not commit to anything before he talked with us despite the fact that he could have signed up on his own. We attended a recruit/family meeting last Saturday. The event was quite inspirational and confirmed our son made the right decision at this point in his life. We are proud of him and the decision he made. NOTE: PLEASE do not turn this into an anti war/pro war thread. This post is meant soley as a tribute to my son and how proud I am of him for making a very difficult but well thought out decision in his early adulthood. -pops- Posted April 25, 2007 Report Share Posted April 25, 2007 We are quite proud of this decisionYou should be!All too often nowadays our young opt for a life of easiness (being polite there) in which they seem incapable of exerting themselves to any greater extent than generating offspring and collecting social security money.I was extremely pleased when my two opted for medicine as a profession (OK, one left that but now runs a very successful business). Personally, I did two years compulsory National Service, and although I had some good times, I hated the whole system, and was glad to get back to my chosen career in civvy street.
