Tankus Posted May 21, 2007 Author Report Share Posted May 21, 2007 Couple of piccies I took last April ....bit annoyed with myself that I did not go on , coming back from the maritime museum (pub lunch or sark , three guesses which way the wind was blowing for me ) Chatting about it in work (we have 24 hr TVnews on all day) the concensus is thats its an insurance job ( I work with a seriously cynical bunch of Afghans, Pakistanis ,Indians ,and Bengali's) the cynics say 1) All the important stuff had previously been removed (including nippy Nan the witch)2) Iron frame on wood ,the frame should survive if caught quick ,removal of the wood would mean easy and cheaper access to the frame with less time consuming (re cost) refurb ...Its a build rather than a costly archaeological renovation . Access to the frame is the current renovations costliest problem ...3) Funding £8m shortfall in current renovation costs ...this will now be met with donations and governmental input to make the politicos look good (Lotto Olympic left overs ) big boost in funds 4) All access on digital security camera's 5) Heratige restrictions now easier as the origional has now gone. 6) not the first time something like this has happened to listed structures From C4 tonight straight through the guts of it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

-pops- Posted May 22, 2007 Report Share Posted May 22, 2007 Things may not be as bad as they look.I saw a televised interview with one of the trustees yesterday and he reported that most of the treasures of the ship had been removed prior to the refurbishment that is taking place. Most of the damage has been done to two of the decks - which are replaceable anyway.The things causing most concern at the moment are the iron parts of the structure and if they have been buckled in the heat of the blaze.
