Free IRC Client for Windows?

Recommended Posts

The trouble with xchat.... is that it's not exactly open source any more. In other words it is now shareware and you have to pay for it after the trial runs out.

However......... there is something called XChat2 which is a lot like xChat... but it's free

EEK , Since when nell.?

the one i have certanly isn't shareware and i certanly don't have to pay to use it..!

mIRC is still free, always has been..It just has a nag.

Used with a script such as No Name Script http://www.nnscript.de/index.php?section=download it works very well :)

**Please note that the latest versions of No Name Script won't work with the latest version of mIRC :S

I use mIRC 6.17 with NNS 4.03.(Both in the above link )

XChat is an IRC chat program for both Linux and Windows. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time, talk publicly, private one-on-one conversations etc. Even file transfers are possible.

http://www.xchat.org/

No one uses mIRC anymore

On the contrary I should imagime the vast majority of irc users use a variation of mIRC...It does all the above and plenty more besides ;)

Trillian is another free option...But it lacks a lot of "genuine" IRC client features http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/downloads/ ....But it DOES allow users to log into MSN messenger,Yahoo messenger,ICQ and AOL messenger all at the same time from the 1 client :S

Shirl .

Thank you for the tips

All the xchat clients I ran on windows would stop working after 30 days

didn't realise there was a free binary for windows, what do you do with it?

./configure
make
make install

;) ?

I will try mIRC and Trillian

I just want to connect to Freenode , don't need MSN or Yahoo...
