XP and Office 2000

A friend bought a new laptop a couple of weeks ago, and it has on it XP. He had Office 2000 on his old computer so I installed this on his laptop for him. It seemed to install quite readily and was working quite nicely, I am led to believe. However something has happened. It may be a little grandson problem or it may be something else.

The symptom is the absence of the toolbar accompanied by the screen header being "off screen" upwards when launched. The obvious thing is to remove Office 2000 and reinstall it, but this may be folly.

My relative ignorance of XP causes me to wonder if there is an incompatibility problem. If not I would appreciate any constructive suggestion.

"The symptom is the absence of the toolbar accompanied by the screen header being "off screen" upwards when launched" is this in XP or office 2000, if in 2000 then is it possible that "a little grandson" has stretched the window bigger than the screen. (once again I know what I'm wrighting)

Is the problem restricted to Office 2000 or are other programmes also affected.

I used Office 2000 with XP for quite a while and cannot recall any settings that would drive the toolbar off the screen.

One thing that does happen - Office 2000 has its own quick launch toolbar (or whatever it was called). This vanished when I upgraded to XP because XP has its own quick launch toolbar at the bottom of the screen and didn't load the Office one. I presume you are not referring to this - or are you...?

It only seems to be Word that is affected, because XL is said to be OK ('though I have not checked this).

When Word Is fired up what appears on the screen is a blank "sheet".

The top row of "Document 1 Microsoft Word...and the Min/Max/Close Buttons" is missing.

The second row of "File, Edit, View, Format...etc" is also missing, as is the third tool bar row of icons such as "new doc" ,"Open" ,"Print", "Font style and size etc etc..

On careful examination the lower edge of the second row can sometimes be seen and this can be dragged down, but take your eye off it for a second and Whoops its gone again.
