TPS

I received a letter from my bank (Lloyds TSB) this morning:

Our records show that your phone number is currently registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) which mean we cannot call you about upgrading your account, or other products and special offers - - -

Well, it may not have occurred to you Lloyds TSB but, that is the exact reason I signed up to TPS - to stop pointless calls trying to sell me things I most likely don't want.

It goes on:

When we spoke to some of out TPS-registered customers, almost 90% of them told us they didn't realise, for example, that it prevents their Lloyds TSB branch from calling to update them. If you also did not realise this and would like us to keep in touch with the occasional phone call, all you need to do is give us your permission.

Do you believe that? Someone going to the effort of signing up to TPS obviously does so for a reason - the same reason that I signed up - to stop junk phone calls.

If my bank wants to phone me about something important such as my account dropping to zero or below, they can and do do this but I will not put up with telephone sales, however much Lloyds TSB tart it up as something desirable.

For those who don't know what TPS is check out here. There is also the MPS for junk mail and FPS for junk Faxes. It's a free service.

Tried the junk mail one some time ago. It only worked for a few months. Now I do as I have said on here before, return junk mail with a cryptic message in the pre paid return envelope. That means that they pay their postage to me, and also the return postage. If only everyone would do this, junk mail would dry up overnight. :D

Good idea, I think I'll try this out the next time I receive junk mail!

A timely reminder pops. We signed up some times ago. Mind we still get the odd marketing call under all sorts of ploys. As soon as I realise I ask them for their phone number and say I will be reporting them to TPS. It's funny but the phone always go click then and just a hum sound! Some Co.s do use a work around and ring from outside the mainland as TPS is only valid here.

I've been with TPS since some kind person first put it on here, and only one phone company has tried to sell since and soon say sorry. I think the company can be in trouble so if they sell in this country then you should be covered even if they phone from aboard.
