Gandalph
Just shows you what they know. Nothing. Sporrans have not been made from animal skins for years.
catgate
Is an animal run over on the road, due to it's own ignorance of the Highway Code, considered to be unlawfully killed, or has it committed habeas corpus derelictus?Edit:- Is the pelt of an animal rights activist considered suitable for making into a sporran? andsome
A Scottish Executive spokeswoman said the new rules had been put in place to bring Scotland into line with existing European legislation designed to protect vulnerable species. As I read through it I was waiting to see a reference to Europe, sure enough there it is.

catgate
Would it not be possible to breed them as pets, like, say, hamsters. You could then wear them without killing them, without a licence, and besides keeping you warm you might just obtain a little pleasure from them. You could have sporran shows and even have a sporran Crufts.

glengall1
Just to let you know. Fortunately this story was absolute nonsense. If you would like to go to the site at http://scottishsporran.com/index.php?news=5 - Scottish Sporran Licences - The Truth it will give you a full explanation of the circumstances behind this legislation and shows up this BBC article as being absolute rubbish and scaremongering tactics to sell their news. catgate
There is a farmer in Aberdeen who has taken out a licence to grow them. He is running a trial on a newly ploughed 5 acre patch of moorland. He has taken cuttings from an old Jacobean one and rooted them in double malt. They are currently planted out about 6 inches apart, and he hopes to be able to thin them out, as they grow, to about two feet apart (Standard EEC requirement). He reckons they should mature just in time for the celebrations when Alec Salmond takes over the presidency of the EU.
