Irene
AVG just gave an alert when I went to open Microsoft Publisher...I've never had anything like this before. What do I do now? (When the message from AVG came up, I put the file into the vault).
catgate
AVG just gave an alert when I went to open Microsoft Publisher...I've never had anything like this before. What do I do now? (When the message from AVG came up, I put the file into the vault). If you look around you should find the part of AVG that will kill everything in the "vault. I can not be more specific, because it is some time since I used AVG,, but it used to have this facility. It would be a bit futile without it. Boris
Don't panic - Irene, That file is in your System Restore - not in your current configuration.
rong
That's it then, if the computer is all right for a week or so clean it out of the vault. I would do a scan with A-squared or/and something like as well just to put my mind at rest.
Boris
It might be prudent to run a full AVG scan in case there are any more lurking :)
Irene
Thanks very much for the help and advice. I'll do both an A-squared and a full AVG scan, just to be on the safe side. When I looked at the file in the vault, it said that it couldn't be healed. :0 If the scan's are ok, I'll check to see how I can kill it off, as you say catgate. That is what I would try. No doubt someone will confirm this or correct me if I am wrong. :D

The A-squared and AVG scan's didn't show any other problems, so I hope all is well now. What I would like to know is, how did it get in? I don't think I've used Publisher on this PC before, but AVG's alert came immediately after I opened the program... I didn't even have Explorer open. Could it be something to do with that software? It was installed from the original disks. I hate mysteries which contain threats!
Coreper
i doubt the "leak" is caused by Publisher, but since almost every product is full of security holes you will always have a risk to get virusses as long as you are connected to the internet...the only thing to do with your computer/software/program is just to keep it updated
