Secunia Personal Software Inspector

Recommended Posts

Just downloaded it and run it. It found that my Office 2000 was out of date. I clicked on automatic updates for two of the office components, and received a message that the program could not be found. I will now do a system restore and wait until the program is more stable.

Secunia Personal Software Inspector

Version 0.9.0.0 (Release Candidate 1 - RC1)

  • Completely re-designed interface
The new interface improves; Usability, responsiveness, features, and the presentation of scan results.
  • Track your patch performance
Graphical overview of current and historic patch-performance 10 weeks back.
  • Improved user friendliness for less-technical users
Most people naturally wish their PC to be as secure and updated as possible. With this in mind and the fact that some applications are are not always straight forward to update and patch, we have introduced a feature that basically will suppress applications that are potentially hard to patch from the overview pages. The idea is that: It is better to patch just one application than none at all.

The new feature called "Easy-to-patch applications" is enabled by default, but can easily be disabled by users who wish to see all detected applications regardless.
  • For each detected application there is now a "Toolbox" of features available:
    • Direct Download Link
    • Solution Wizard
    • Ability to request a re-scan of a single application
    • Access to Online References
    • Technical Details
    • Access to application installation folders directly from the PSI
    • Ignore Application (easy creation)
    • Shortcut to Windows Add/Remove Programs application

    [*]Scan progress and details page

    • Live updated progress bar when a scan is running
    • Live updated step-by-step information when a scan is running
    • View when the last scan occurred and when next scheduled scan will take place
    • Ability to abort a scan in progress

    [*]PSI application settings

    • Configurable if the PSI should start on boot
    • Configurable if the PSI should monitor your system
    • Manage your Ignore Rules

    [*]Secunia Profile

    • Create your own Secunia Profile to receive special benefits and be the first to participate in upcoming events and gimmicks! ;)

    [*]Detection of more applications

The PSI is currently able to detect and check more than 5,500 different applications (major branches).

To clarify, by 1 application we mean ALL versions of a particular application. As an example, our rule for Opera 9.x is capable of detecting version 9.00, 9.01, 9.02, ..[snip].., 9.23, 9.24, 9.50 and so on. This also includes localised and future/not-yet-released versions.
