Tankus Posted August 13, 2007 Report Share Posted August 13, 2007 Another dose of insomnia Thought I would grab a beer and my camera and sit out in the garden , This was about 2am .... peak persid viewing time in the UK apparently.....Left my tripod in work ....bit of a bugger ,so I had to make do with my mini pod .didn't expect to get anything ...as blink and you've missed it ....plus the timer and shutter delays ..100 per hour .? As if ...!...I saw 6.... all in different directions , I could have sworn that one of them had an orange flash ....Anyway ...had a fiddle with my cameras manual settings just to see what long exposure wide aperture shots would come out like .....8sec shots , as the mini pod wasn't steady so I used the delay timer got lots off these ....stars beer ran out so I went upstairs and went out onto the extension roof ...on a good day you cans see the P&O tower, the Nat West and Gherkin towers and Canary Wharf ..... and tonight's a rare clear night This is an 5 second exposure The Gherkins on the left Nat West in the middle , and there's that new one on the right To the extreme far left ...that orange dot above the chimney is canary Wharf tower .Played with the zoom on the GherkinSans tripod .....and with ....Quite a few planes up in the air freakily I bagged one The second shot is an enhancement of the first , the dark area are not my fingers , but my sky dish (out of focus ) got it bang between the LNB and the dish and .....its ah I don't believe it moment , look the the top left of this picture ....? Good pics - I must try that time of the morning.Mind you, I'm not altogether sure the 1st one - stars, was a success. Reminded me of those paintings of blank canvasses in the Tate. What is it? -pops- Posted August 13, 2007 Report Share Posted August 13, 2007 It was quite a good show here in deepest rurality although I have seen better displays in previous years.The problem in urban and (worse) city environments is light pollution preventing the less bright meteors showing above the background light. By far the very best views of the night sky (apart from during the war years blackout), that I have ever seen, were in Yosemite National park. That new building in the city is going to be big.......Trees could do with a trim ..methinks Some nice clouds this morning too ...had to get a plane in again ...innit ! Feel a pub lunch coming on ..... got the munchies , probably as I was up most of the night ..really good Thai pub in the market ......edit ............Hmmm Image shack have upped their upper size restriction ... I find that the picture quality goes up on a resize from a bigger format good news though as it makes photoblogging less of a chore Incidently ....I think that new build is called the Pinnacle 8500 workers ...and parking for 6 ..... even more nose to armpit on the city commute ....joy !edit ............heh ..... anyways artist ...that spot in the corner has made some geezer in the Tate , thousands of Pound's , not all spots should be treated with contempt ...as some have their own place in the universe ....or someones wallet ! .... isn't it ...!errr.....I think that beer in the afternoon makes me pustulate too much ....!
