Memory Leak?

Recommended Posts

I leave my computer on 24x7 and run routine maintenance tasks (automatic start ups on schedules) overnight, some with overlapping start times.

I am now waking up to see the computer screen showing the blue screen of death on a regular basis. I never had this problem before.

A friend of mine said it may be some sort of memory leak.

Any suggestions on how to diagnose and repair this problem?

Oh God , don't let Andsome hear of this...

That is his choice of course if he wants to spend all that money on power. It's surprising how the cost mounts up. Depending on the power consumption it could well cost several hundred dollars a year. Just work it out assuming a nominal 400 watts per hour. :D

Have a look at

Hello, this problem took me months to figure out. its basically the hard drive idiling. then the power settings turn it to idle (atapi.sys) so when a request goes to the hard drive, the return signal say no, so you get the blue screen of death. turn all your power options off in bios and in control panel.

0x0000007A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

A page of kernel data was not found in the pagefile and could not be read into memory. This might be due to incompatible disk or controller drivers, firmware, or hardware.

To answer your question above: Yes, but look at the quote here. Incompatible disk or controller drivers... Perhaps the drive is on its way out?

EDIT:

A more likely situation is that there is several (hundred?) bad sectors on the drive. If you can, run a check disk on this drive. If you cannot load Windows, it can also be run from the Windows CD. Just boot to CD, then enter the recovery console and issue a :

chkdsk /r

I am able to copy important files to my external hard drive and am doing so right now. I also backed up my outlook express email. My last full HD backup was 2 weeks ago, also on my external HD.

Is it best to just buy another HD and restore it with the backup files or should I continue to try to solve this problem?

As hard drives are so low cost now, why take the risk of catastrophic failure? I would go for a new one and even if it is not the drive causing the problem, there is nothing lost as you can use the drive elsewhere.

I suggest you get a new drive without delay.

Remember you need to buy a new drive of a size at least that of your current.

That is the same error as before. While the drive may or may not have bad sectors, the controller (circuit board underneath the drive) may have bad solder or a loose connection. There is too many possibilities to let this just fix itself.

I recently purchased a 400GB hard drive for $133. That was after taxes, so there is no reason to attempt to fix a bad drive these days.
