andsome Posted October 10, 2007 Report Share Posted October 10, 2007 I downloaded and installed four Windows updates on XP Home SP2 this morning. Soon afterwards, a message flashed up that I had changed some essential Windows programs, and that this may affect the running of Windows. It suggested that I should insert the original Windows CD. -pops- Posted October 10, 2007 Report Share Posted October 10, 2007 When I did mine (on my main computer) I was told that my Windows updates updater was out of date and needed updating (or some such message) and it the proceeded to update my updater at the same time telling me that the Windows Genuine Advantage (?!?!?!?!?!) needed updating as well. I was concerned at that as I thought it was then going to tell me that my version of Windows XP that I've had installed for more than four years wasn't genuine, but it didn't.After all that it proceeded to do the update proper and after the reboot is now working OK. Irene Posted October 10, 2007 Report Share Posted October 10, 2007 As a result of the Secunia Scan, I was advised that there were three Windows updates missing...KB933729, KB939653 and KB941202.I took the link from Secunia to the Windows Updater. When I ran the check, there were six updates required. The three previously mentioned, plus KB890830, KB942670 and KB915597. (The last being Windows Defender). After the download, they failed to install, so I made a note of them for reference.I then noticed that the Windows yellow shield was present in the bottom right tray, which said that there were updates to install. . I let it then perform the updates, just five of them (excluding the Windows Defender one). Then all seemed to be ok after the re-boot. I can only assume that all is ok now. I scanned with it this morning & my computer is completely clean. That's no malware, adware, viruses, etc for 12 months, only the occasional tracking cookie. So I'm quite happy.
