andsome Posted October 28, 2007 Report Share Posted October 28, 2007 Last year our small local Football Club Chasetown made it through to the first round proper of the F.A. cup, having beaten teams several leagues higher than them, and played Oldham. The match was featured on Match of the day, on BBC T.V. At the end of the season they went up a league, but are still several leagues below the Coca cola league. They have however once again won through to the first round proper. It's great to see minnows doing well.HERE.They are still in a very lowly league. They are all complete amateurs, and have to work all the week, not even one semi pro. They won promotion to a higher league last season, and are doing well this season too. It's great to see minnows getting a bit of publicity for a change. Not everyone is desperate for news of the grossly overpaid Premier league teams, and a lot of hard work is put in by dedicated people who keep these small time clubs going. I would much prefer to watch such a match than see any of the premier matches. This will really boost their coffers. They do a lot for local kids, and are building a new stand on the strength of their last cup run earnings. Seems a long time ago now though. :) I have absolutely no interest in football whatsoever, but when I was a child in the 1940's/50's, I have clear memories of my father recording the football scores in the newspaper (Evening Sentinel, I think). I was foolish and used one of Littlewoods "plans" instead of a proper permutation.On one Saturday I had nine draws in my sixteen selection, and there were only nine draws on the coupon. I don't think any locals seriously expected them to beat a championship team 136 places above them in the league, but they did not disgrace themselves by all accounts. Two years ago, they were the lowliest team to reach the second round, this year they were the lowliest team ever to reach the third round.
