I like an operating system to operate to do computing and not to be taking my time up trying to figure out why something isn't doing what it should be. AlanHo Posted January 12, 2008 Report Share Posted January 12, 2008 I must confess that whilst I accept that people are not comfortable with Vista - I really have no idea why based upon my own experience.I have now run two computers with Vista - I upgraded my 2 year old Athlon 64 machine many moons ago - which has now been replaced by a home built Intel Quad core. Both computers run Vista beautifully, especially the new one - which runs at a phenomenal speed compared with anything I have used before. At first the interface was unfamiliar and took some getting used to - but when I now use my XP laptop - it feels like a clunky step back in time and convenience.Two of my friends have moved up to Vista computers and are both delighted at their decision. Another friend took an instant dislike to the Vista interface on a new laptop and the fact that his 7 year old printer lacked Vista drivers. He got into an awful mess trying to go back to XP - he has now reverted to Vista again with a new printer. He seems to be warming to it, but is inhibited in advertising the fact because he was so vociferous about Vista in the first place.I guess that the main cause of the groundswell against Vista is the large number of people who have upgraded computers not quite powerful enough to run it properly with peripherals too old to have suitable drivers. It is a fact of life that the disgruntled are far more likely to broadcast their feelings that those who are satisfied. In my opinion - if you are ready to upgrade your computer to get better performance - then load it with Vista and enjoy enhanced stability, a better interface and good security. I had to replace my 6 year old PC running XP on Christmas Eve and thought there was no point buying XP again. The first few days, until I had all set up as I like it, I wondered what on earth I had let myself in for as I really didn't like Vista.
