AlanHo
The NHS bosses should start hiring obsessive compulsives as nurses.Their obsessive and diligent attention to hygiene and constant hand washing would see an end to MRSA outbreaks in no time. -pops-
As MRSA is entirely introduced into the hospital environment by human transfer, a sure way of eliminating it is to bar all humans from entering hospitals - patients, visitors, staff but especially busybody do-gooders such as members of Parliament. andsome
At Cannock Chase hospital everyone, including visitors has to was their hands on entering any ward, using the antiseptic gel provided. Sitting on patients beds by visitors is strictly prohibited. At present there are no known incidences of MRSA in the surgical wards. :D
Watchful
That's a brilliant idea to hire obsessives :D Speaking of hospitals, we had to visit Blackburn Royal Hospital yesterday (daughter taken in early after waters breaking) maternity dept. and had to use gel on entering and leaving. Just to be on the safe side we 'bummed' the doors open as we went  Magnificent hospital I must say, all mod cons. Felt like being in an airport terminal.I may be a gran by this time tomorrow although it's 5 weeks early. Caught us all on the hop :

The hand washing business is but a token gesture.Over the years I have spent considerable time "round the back" in hospitals and what went on even twenty five years ago, before superbugs, was less than desirable. On one occasion I had gone to discuss a matter with a surgeon at a hospital in Cheshire. He had said, "Oh come sometime tomorrow afternoon...I shall be working in A&E theatre, but I will pop out to see you."When I got there, through the back door, I spoke to one of the girls sat at a desk, who said,"I will go and tell him your here, just have a seat in there," and pointed to a door.I went in and sat down. She was back in an instant and said the he would be out in a couple of minutes would I like a cup of tea. The tea arrived and as the girl was leaving in came two Traffic policemen. "I suppose you will want tea as well" she said. They both nodded. We sat in silence until their tea had been delivered. When we all had a cup I said "Trouble?" " On no. We were just passing by. We often pop in just for a cup. We are often in here though with accident victims, we are almost part of the team."Just as we finished the tea the door on the opposite wall opened and in came my surgeon, On the other side of the door was the theatre. He had on his green suit and hat, mask and wellies. He walked over to the desk and sat down. As he did so he pulled his mask down and pulled a pipe and some matches out of the desk drawer. He turned and said 'hello' to the police men, who greeted him as a friend and then said it was time they were on their way 'cheerio'. He lit his pipe and said "That's better. Now where's my tea?" He then walked across to the other door and spoke to the girl. He reseated himself at his desk and we spent about a quarter of an hour discussing the matter in hand, whilst he drank his tea. We reached a conclusion and so he said , "Well, I had better get back and sew this chap up, They will have got him cleaned up by now. Cheerio, and thanks for coming." With that he popped his pipe back into the drawer, pulled up his mask and disappeared through the door back into the theatre.

Mike567
It wouldn't help having OCD nurses, they will think their has been 100 other people having put their hands in this pot to clean their hands. If you expect them to work near sick people they will be wearing a full body condom
