doug
Started this morning. After fully booting up - no warning bleeps, during boot up - have started to get this very loud single beep from the tower unit roughly every 5 mins. Got the audio volume turned right down and am not wearing the new hearing aids just yet. Any suggestions out there and what questions should I reply to/ where should I go looking? rong
My first thing would be to check that the fans are working and it's not to dirty.

AlanHo
Just had a Google out of interest. Two possibilities suggested :-.Motherboard or CPU overheatingMalware infectionI am also aware, from watching James Bond films, that the evil one's time bombs beep every few minutes. -pops-
Following rong's and AlanHo's leads, many motherboard temperature monitors will beep when they detect overheating sufficient to cause the alarm to activate but not enough to cause a shutdown. Note that these monitors normally use the case beeper, not the sound system of the machine to sound the alarm.A check on the fans and dust accumulation may well sort it out. It always surprises me that the removal of a seemingly very small amount of dust can make a vast improvement in performance.
doug
Thanks folks - found the non-existent problem after powering down and switching off. The beep kept happening - it was my mobile phone saying that it was fully charged :paperbag1:

AlanHo
You are as dumb as me.A few months ago I spent an hour trying to trace a regular beep in the house - it turned out to be one of the smoke alarms crying out for a new battery.
