stephmayes Posted February 16, 2008 Report Share Posted February 16, 2008 I have recently downloaded the latest security update from the little yellow icon bottom right hand corner of my computer. The problem is that it downloads but when I try and install it, there is a long gap then it reverts back to the download window.I have rebooted. No joy. All the Microsoft updates were downloaded and installed fine apart from this one, Security Update for Microsoft Internet Explorer IE7, I even downloaded the latest version of the Microsoft Installer v3.1 and it still refuses to download, it gets part way then comes up with failed. If you go onto the windows update via your start button and update from there. Ah, your not talking about the last lot of updates then as they were installed on February 13th according to 'Add/remove programmes' but they were probably available on the 12th as that was 'patch tuesday'. Gandalph Posted February 16, 2008 Report Share Posted February 16, 2008 This particular one I'm having trouble with Curly was one that was released in January, the trouble with it is that every patch Tuesday it will pop up with the rest of the updates to be downloaded with them. I've tried 37 times since it's release in January to try and get it but as you can read from the above post it just fails for some reason. As a result of this, every day when I boot up the computer I get the Yellow Shield in the system tray telling me there is an update ready for download. I'm not really bothered about it. Yet at the same time they urge us to use Defender and the Malicious Software Removal Tool, neither of which give us any feedback about what they are doing, and produce an over-complex word processor like Word 2007, which is much too intricate for the average user. When you get there and it has done its' check on what updates you require, look at the menu on the left and touch the Review Your Update History. Look through the list until you see any with a cross in a red circle. Check what the KB number is.Once you know which one it is, you could then try searching Microsoft for that specific KB number and try installing again.I suppose before all that, you could also look through, Add & Remove Programs (put a check in the box at the top to Include Updates). See if you can find any reference to the KB number there.If by any chance it is there, uninstall it, then try installing it once again.ALSO... Whilst you are checking Add & Remove Programs, look for the KB944533 referred to in Boris' link. There has just been another update cropped up, Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 (KB929969) 760KB which has downloaded and installed OK. This is the error code which I got from the 'Review Update History' section '0x8007F0DA'. I am going to have a look on google to see what I can find out on there. If so, I had a similar problem with that one on one of my computers. I "fixed" it by uninstalling .NET Framework.On my work computers I need .NET Framework, but fortunately I didn't have any problems here.
