My recollection was that the story said Julius C. inserted the twelfth month. Prior to that there were eleven months of time followed by a four week long period of nothing.. Belatucadrus
Well as the Romans probably stole it at the sack of Syracuse it was probably set to run on a Greek not Roman calendar. According to this there were a few and all somewhat different, which may explain why somebody decided to create something capable of calculating four year intervals, something that would ordinarily seem quite easy.Sad to think of how many centuries of technological progress may have been plundered or trashed by a bunch of legionaries who may have been dab hands at vivisection, but not so hot on abstract or constructive thought. catgate
.........and the mechanised WC in our village whose doors fail to close Come , come....that is the cutting edge of modern endeavour. It may take some time to perfect doors that close. It was difficult enough getting them to open.
