Irene
I wasn't sure where to post this, so please feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place.Whilst considering a possible alternative broadband, a couple of questions materialised...Is it necessary to dig up your drive/garden to bring it into the house? How does it serve television's in various locations in the home?
Alan2273
Irene, yes they do dig up our drive, but it is onlky a small trench, about 6" wide and 6" deep.As far as how it affects televisions in your house I assume you mean using more than one from the cable box, if that is the case you need another box for an extra cable.I only have the one cable box, the other TV's run on freeview, as I do not think the extra cost is worth it. andsome
The box in the road is just outside our house. They drilled a hole through the concrete inner kerb edging, than made a very narrow slit trench across the front lawn, which after the cable was put in and the lawn repaired almost invisibly. We have a concrete path across the front of the house, into which they cut a groove with a diamond coated cutting wheel. The cable was then fixed into a small box which they attached to the house just above ground level. The concrete was repaired, and the new concrete has weathered over time. The cable is fed into the side entrance about six inches above ground level. One cable then diverts up the outside wall and is passed into the side bedroom for my computer terminal. Another cable goes round the house and is fed through the wall behind the TV and plugged into the Virgin box. The whole exercise took less that one hour. Go for it, it's far superior to using the phone cable. :D :DEDIT. Forgot to mention that a hole is also drilled into our front wall for the telephone cable. You home will of course be laid out differently to ours, but basically it is a very simple stress free operation. Your INTERNET speed will improve phenomenally. Took the guys about 2 hours and there was no lasting evidence of any lawn damage or where they crossed the path near the house. The only problem I know of was our neighbour cut his cable last year when spiking the lawn with a powered aerator. The cable was only a spade deep and the aerator managed to reach it. Virgin repaired the damage FOC I believe.
Irene
Our concern was that we have a block-paved forecourt.I wonder how they would deal with that?
