Which Hard-Drive Brand Should I purchase?

Hello

I need to buy a 1TB hard-drive.

I have SATA.

I need an internal one.

Here is where I'm looking at to make my decision: http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf

I need the following;

1TB

Good quality

Cheap

Please tell me which of the following brands I should chose;

Western Digital

Western Digital AV

Maxtor

Samsung/Samsung 2

Seagate

Please reply ASAP as I need the space!

Also how much back feed do you get above 2,500.

You are probably right, Boris. Maybe I am thinking of the slip factor on the old triple drive effect, used by the Mk 2 Parkinson PRC systems.

Richardson and Scarkowski proposed a formula for this in their paper published for peer review in 2006.

As I recall it was P/t = 2 x L^2 (where P = latency, t = time and L = probability ....simpsonian version of K /1.9.)

You need to take account of the fact that Hitachin can store more data because the reverse rotation compacts it.

A motor controller for an electric motor having a plurality of motor terminals is connected to a power supply and comprises a commutation control, a current sensor, a peak target circuit, a pulse width control and a reverse current control. The commutation control is connected to the motor terminals for causing current pulses to flow through selected terminals during each commutation state. The current sensor provides a sense signal representative of the current pulses, and the peak current target circuit provides a target signal. The pulse width control controls pulse width of the current pulses as a function of the sense signal and the target signal. The reverse current control prevents reverse current from flowing into the power supply during change of commutation state.

This is an almost perfect description of the motor in our Microwave Combi oven. I had not realised just how similar they are functionally.

When you think about it though the methodology and the generative input are both very similar. Very revealing.

OK - back on topic.

The Hitachi drives have circumvented the need for reverse direction prevention and made a virtue out of a vice. They spin up in the opposite direction to the writing head direction and use rotational vibration safeguard technology for high performance - thus compacting the data and enhancing the write speed. Whilst writing speeds are thus increased it has the opposite effect when reading data which takes longer due to the inertial lag in the commutation state - a known feature of reverse spoofladine technology. This is fine if - as you stated - you want to store lots of data - rather than read it.

Never dismiss Japanese technology - remember that they are at the forefront of electronic technology made in China.

I was asking all these questions about Hitashi because of the 4 other forums I posted this on, not one had mentioned Hitachi. This doesn't mean that it isn't a good brand, just means... I dunno, musn't be as popular!!!

Well, after looking at the prices comparively, I don't think I will get Hitachi. What (in the people of this forum) opinion is of the next down from Hitachi? Let me rephrase; what's the next best brand?

After completing a polless poll, I came up with the following results;

4 - Hitachi

13 - Western Digital

11 - Seagate

Winner: Western Digital

So I'll be getting Western Digital now.

Probably two separate 500GB ones in RAID 0 (as per Arne's suggestion).
