Ryzeabove Posted January 11, 2009 Report Share Posted January 11, 2009 I have been trying to download the Beta for Windows 7 to use on my laptop for the past few hours. I have filled out my application, and I have the link to download, however, when I click the link on IE7 it sends me to the page, and says that I have to install an ActiveX Control. I allow it, and it gives me the option of installing "Akamai Download Manager". When I click to install, it simply goes away and I am left with a page that says: Windows 7 Beta Download Center Please wait while the Download Manager begins your download.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you have not already installed ActiveX control or the JavaTM applet, an information box will appear in your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser prompting you to install "ActiveX control:...". If the Download Manager can not install the ActiveX control or the JavaTM applet in your browser, you may have system restrictions.If you have system restrictions, please:Download products using the Web Browser method Contact your organization’s Administrator to download products using the Download Manager method This has been staying here for the last 2 hours. I have looked around the internet to find a download for the Akamai Download Manager, but I have not received any actual links to the download, and I have read that I simply need to disable the popup blocker on IE7. I have done this, and there still is no download. I have also read that the Download Manager comes with Adobe CS4, is it possible to get the Download Manager without having to buy CS4?I need some serious help on this, as I really want to try out the new Windows 7. Ryzeabove Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 11, 2009 The site is working perfectly fine for me, and I have gotten my product key, but when I click on the "Download Now" link, it goes to a page like the one that I mentioned in my last post. I also clicked on the link that was part of the update of the link that you sent, and went through the process again, both on Mozilla Firefox, and IE7, but it was a no-go again. Every new Windows version is plagued by the same thing - they grossly underestimate the interest and demand for beta versions so they end up with an overloaded, crashed system resulting in nobody being able to take part in their testing.Give it a day or two for things to calm down. I am slightly more than skeptical, but I am downloading it anyways, and will be burning it to a disk. I am still unsure whether I should boot from it after I finish burning the image onto a DVD. Use something like nLite to check the Operating System. Something like this should come up to tell you what files are actually on the .ISO. It will tell you the OS, OS version (beta, service pack, etc), and the language. You could also end up downloading some some Arabic MS-DOS. Now wouldn't that be funny? :PAnyway, is Windows 7 beta still available to be downloaded? Or are you using a spare computer (or at least a separate partition or HD) for Windows 7 on your existing computer?Have you backed up all your important data on to external media?You're a brave soul, please keep the forum informed about how it goes.
