Question and help about Azureus (Vuze)

Hello all. I need help with Azureus, now called Vuze. I use Azureus for torrent download and Bearshare sometimes as well for P2P downloading. Azureus downloads much slower than Bearshare, about 1/4 the speed actually. Also, the downloads stop sometimes, usually after about one or two hours of downloading, this does not happen with Bearshare. Another thing that happens is that in the morning, when I turn Azureus off, I can't use the internet at all, as the connection is dead and I have to turn of the modem and restart it again.

Any help is much appreciated, as this has been going on for a year now and I want to fix it

I think that you will find that most of the members on here do not go in for P2P downloading, we value our computers too much. What AV and Firewall program do you use? What Anti Malware programs if any are installed? Have you scanned for possible Malware? Try an on line scan

I agree - it looks as if your ISP is throttling your connection (aka "shaping" it) - which is becoming more and more common for P2P users.

I do have some computer knowledge, but I admit I don't know how to check and maybe even identify it. Can you guys or anyone else please explain.

See, the thing is that doesn't happen with Bearshare, another P2P program as you likely know. I was thinking that it was something specific to Azureus. I have Azureus "set" on TCP and UDP listen port = 50226. Mabe that bit of information can get someone here to know what the problem is

Read up your ISP agreement regarding what they like to call "fair usage" (translated this means "Maximising Our Profit").

They do not like you using all you capacity when they could be selling some of it to someone else.

If you can not find this then email them or, if you are a hardy soul, and are prepared to be tossed from one operator to another, like a tennis ball at Wimbledon, just ring them up and enquire.

do you have a router? maybe you need to forward a port (50226)on your router

If it's been going on for a year, then I'd have thought your ISP would start sending you angry letters about your downloading as no ISP will allow it.

I used to download stuff all the time, nowadays I'd prefer to go download off safe websites rather than P2P software because this stuff happens too much.

I don't think it's ISP related that much, P2P has loads of dependancies and it could be a few of them are messed up somehow.

One more thing I'd love to point out is that BearShare uses the GNUtella Network; did you know that network is being very closely monitored/ It's also the same network as Limewire and a few others which viruses and crap are downloaded through Limewire more than rats in alleyways.

Anyway, it's hard to find safe file-sharing websites but they do exist. I could suggest a few but I don't think I'm allowed on this forum so I won't.

One question though; last time I tried BearShare it wouldn't work... I would click download/save (whichever it was) on the music file I wanted and it wouldn't do anything... How the heck did you manage to get it to work!? :lol:
