When we've been to Scotland before we've gone in the first two weeks of June. Midges weren't a bother then.

We'll be going 2nd and 3rd week this time. To the Aberdeenshire area.

When do the pests start showing themselves?

Any time the wind isn't blowing.

Not the answer I was looking for - we are debating whether to go in September instead.............

Same answer really Artist.

If it's a warm September they can strike. It depends on what part of Aberdeenshire you are going to. If it's the Cairngorms you could be plagued by them, and believe me when I say plagued I mean it.

Just remember to take plenty of repellent with you and always stick it in your pocket when you are out and about. Anything containing Citronella will do the trick. Get hold of some Citronella candles for the caravan and always have one burning on a shelf. :D

Artist,

If you have an Avon representative (not an Avon lady anymore, that's just not PC :D ) .. you can buy their 'Skin So Soft' dry oil body spray...avon.jpg

Works well B) and no, I'm not on commission....

I don't think that will do a lot to repel the Midge. :D

Given the choice of a less than trendy hat or being eaten alive by a swarm of tartan bloodsuckers, I'd go for the hat.

Do make sure the caravan is well coated with DDT or they may eat that as well.

No longer available. :D
