What’s the best setup for backing up my hard drive?

Recommended Posts

I need to backup my hard drive and am looking for an easy way to do that. I need to backup all of my multimedia data such as pictures, videos, and music; I do a lot of multimedia work and I’ve got about 100GB that I need to backup. I’m thinking using an online system. Does anyone know of companies that offer services that are affordable, and preferably unlimited? I’d love to hear your recommendations and experiences.

Acronis will not break the bank. If you become a subscriber to the forum you can get a discount from the link at the top of the page. It will make a complete mirror image of the drive to a second internal drive or to a plug in hard drive. if you get a problem just use its boot up disk and completely erase the contents of the corrupted drive and install the saved mirror image in its place, complete with absolutely everything that you save to the image. :D

Why would you be asking for advice and advertising at the same time???

Mediafire can host files for an "unlimited" amount of time and gives you an "unlimited" amount of space. Never seen this to be wrong and I've used that website for a year or two. But is only good for small folders or whatever.

There is also Acronis or similar software.

BT Vault thing, if you're on BT, that is... :)

There is also the option of using CD / DVD discs to keep copies of all your work.

Data Bars / Travellers / Storage etc to also keep copies.

And last and most certainly least, Windows Restore, I suppose could be another option.

And that's about it I think. :)

There's also the excellent built-in Windows Back-up utility for XP & Vista users. If you have the Home edition of XP you may have to install it from the CD. After using some other 3rd party backup utilities I eventually went back to using Windows' own. Once you've learnt how to use it you can literally back up anything with it, including just the registry or the system state, your own data, etc. You can read how to use it at this THIS MICROSOFT LINK.

I agree with those who say for extra security back up to external media.
