D4\/!d
Hello folks, I should be grateful if one or two of you who know about new PCs and the parts to buy would cast your eye across this spec I have put together. I am hoping to build (first time) an uptodate machine but within a budget of say £600.I am NOT a gamer.I use the usual MSOffice, Internet, and so on. I need the PC to be quiet. And if you happen to notice any conflicts please yell.CpuAMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8GHz Socket AM2+ 6MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed £160http://www.ebuyer.com/product/155715Main Board ASUS M3N78 PRO GeForce 8300 Socket AM2+ onboard graphics 8 channel £60http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150948Graphics CardASUS 9800GT 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E Graphics Card£80http://www.ebuyer.com/product/1613332 of 2× KINGSTON KHX8500D2K2/2G DDR2 KIT 2GB £78http://www.ebuyer.com/product/1488592 of HDD SEAGATE 500 GB, 7200RPM, SATAII, 32MB/NCQ, BARRACUDA 7200.11500GB £80http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158860CaseAntec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Mid Tower Case - With 500W EarthWatts £95http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128045...And what Interface cables do I need.http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151963I also need a CDR CDRW/DVD drive (no floppy required)I guess this is alright – or is it a bit cheap:LG GH22NS40 22X SATA DVD±RW/DL/RAM Black Bare Drive – OEM £16http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151999And I require plenty of USB ports. Many thanks,

AlanHo
Why install a graphics card if you are not a gamer - the on-board graphics look pretty powerful.Save yourself £80 - you could always add one later if necessary.12 months ago my Antec Sonata case came with loads of connecting cables - I didn't need to buy any. D4\/!d
Thanks Alan, that's worth thinking about.Pleased to hear about the cables with the case :)
rong
My Asus motherboard came with every thing I needed, I think there were two SATA cables to which would cover your hard drives as well
D4\/!d
Thanks rong.Did anybody notice any conflicts between the hardware choices.I suppose they will work together without problem...
rong
I don't think conflicts between the hardware are a big problem nowadays, I always have to buy to a price and upgrade bits as and when I have the money (I buy an up to date motherboard and make do with what I have or buy cheap until I can afford better) and don't find any problems with hardware conflicts
andsome
I have been very pleased with my Antec case. :D
Alan2273
If you can afford an extra £17 for the case buy a Silverstone Fortress, it is silent and great at cooling and has good cable management features.http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167303To go for the case get a Phenom ii 940 which runs at 3GHz and is £27 cheaper than the 920http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....rodid=CP-236-AMI am running a Phenom 940 with a M3A78DLX mobo with 4GB's Crucial 1066 memory, 4850 1Gb passive cooled graphics card in a Fortress case, it is silent and very fast, probably overkill for what I use it for now
D4\/!d
Hello Alan,Alright I'll go for the AMD Phenom II X4 940 3GHz Socket AM2+ 6MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor155714I suppose it will work with my chosen Asus M3N78 Pro - NVIDIA GeForce 8300 - AM2 - PCI-E 2.0 (x16) - DDR2 1066/800/667 - SATA II - ATXhttp://www.ebuyer.com/product/150948Case looks good too. AlanHo
The recommended Silverstone case appears to lack a PSU. It will add a lot to the cost and my Antec case is very quiet..
D4\/!d
Well spotted Alan. Thanks. So it's back to the Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Mid Tower Case - With 500W EarthWatts£95http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128045

Sbrideau
I wouldn't recommend using Kingston RAM, I would get something like corsair or another good brand, I've only had trouble with anything that was Kingston in the past and I will never go for that again. AlanHo
I have always found memory from Crucial to be good and very competitive.
