SmartBarXP is a bar that runs down the side of your screen, and can be configured to display interactive panes, display shortcuts to common locations, or even replace your existing taskbar. A huge selection of panes are available to be added to the bar, which range from media Players and a running slideshow pane, to live news, weather and stock feeds, and much more.

To add to the incredible flexibility of functionality, SmartBarXP can be fully customized in almost every aspect you could think of. Every pane has extensive options where needed, and can be customized to function and look just the way you want it to. The bar itself can also be customized, with several options for positioning, auto hiding, pane scrolling, fading and translucency effects, changing the language and regional setting, and more. You can also select the theme the bar takes on; it can match your current Windows XP theme, the Classic Windows theme, or even use a third party SmartBarXP theme.

With a wide range panes to choose from, and seemingly endless ways to customize it, SmartBarXP can be configured to the needs of almost any computer user – be it for home or business use. http://www.smartbarxp.com/smartbar.shtml

to add to ellas excellent post, this feature has been heavily borrowed from the forthcoming Windows Longhorn...is you are going to upgrade, this software will give you an excellent idea of just one thing that will be implimented in future editions of windows.

Now that I could really get into....... but I can't find anything to say what o/s you can run it with which makes me assume....... because of the name really....... that it is just an XP thing. :( Sometimes I really feel like the poor relation.

The more I play around with the customisation features on this bar, the more I like it ........

I especially like the news ticker tape feature , to places like the registry and such..Its a bit like avant go , on my PDA ... well good

I now use this as a replacement for my usual start bar in the bottom of the screen , even though it takes up more screen real estate ....(Hm 19" to 21" upgrade soon ....? wallet allowing ! )

I wonder how much bandwidth it uses with everything switched on.....resouce hogger as well........?

Turn it off while not online perhaps......

One minor gripe...... the embedded winamp control only seems to work with winamp2 and not 3 ...not a big thing as there are more freebie DSP's in 2 available , but I have to switch to down load to my MP3 muvo.....

Cheers for the link ...ellas ....One to keep....

I'm just not that technical - what would this mean to me - simplified.

Try it out artist....you can always dump it if you don't like it...As for winamp , one of the control panels is set up to work it from the task bar , but it only works on an earlier version.....

There is another one for win media player 9 , so use that one then ...It just means that you can stop, start or change songs without opening a new window....

I usually listen to music or the TV while on line so its a fairly useful feature for me .
