AlanHo
This has possibly been on before - but recent threads suggest that we have members and visitors who lack a proper back-up procedure. It is possible to obtain a version of Acronis 2009 free of charge from 3 hard disc manufacturers - provided you use one of their hard drives.Western Digital VersionMaxtor VersionSeagate Version(Information taken from recent thread on Windows 7 Forum....)With free software of this quality there can be no excuse for not setting up a proper back-up procedure. andsome
I bought it a few months ago. Pity about that, I have a Seagate. :D

Hb_Kai
Is Acronis much different when compared to CloneZilla?
andsome
Is Acronis much different when compared to CloneZilla?Never tried that one, but ACRONIS has saved the day on more than one occasion for me. :D
AlanHo
I have never tried Clonezilla because I chose Acronis - the back-up software universally recommended by most experts on most computer forums.I just took a quick look at Clonezilla menu screen shots and find that they are not nearly as clear and friendly as Acronis. Seems more suitable for someone more computer literate than me.Acronis is efficient, reliable and easy to use - and you can get it free from hard drive manufacturers. What more can anyone want...?Ask yourself - why did the leading hard drive manufacturers choose Acronis instead of any other backup software!!!! Hb_Kai
Acronis is efficient, reliable and easy to use - and you can get it free from hard drive manufacturers. What more can anyone want...?Ask yourself - why did the leading hard drive manufacturers choose Acronis instead of any other backup software!!!!Because Acronis is popularly used software and offering free programs to customers is just another way of hooking onto new customers rather than offering free copies of what is already free, open-source software like Clonezilla? :PThe reason I asked was because I'm beginning to consider purchasing software now, more than I used to, to get away from using the open-source alternatives but still, there's no reason for me to pay for software until something big and interesting comes up I think. :)I nearly bought Comodo's internet security the other day though. I was so tempted.

andsome
I nearly bought Comodo's internet security the other day though. I was so tempted.Do not "nearly buy" Acronis.Just get it. B) I couldn't agree more. My ONLY complaint about the latest ACRONIS is that it has too many facilities for the average user. I had to mess around with it for a while and made a few mistakes, but it is now extremely easy to use. I have a 1TB plug in hard drive, loads and loads of room. I just do regular full back ups, and don't bother with incremental ones. I save the latest back up on to my D Drive and again to another smaller plug in drive. Belt and braces. Because of the way that I mess about now and then with new programs, previously I had to reinstall Windows from time to time. Since having this computer I have almost forgotten how to install Windows. I just use one of my backups. :D
-pops-
Note that Acronis has a "Try & Decide" facility to provide a safe environment for risk free testing of websites and software.
