I find W7 quite impressive.I've only recently begun using Vista (on my first ever laptop) but there is something undefinable that I dislike about it. I may have been influenced by its widely published detractors but, I don't think that is the case.I am all set up ready for Thursday (Royal Mail permitting) to install W7 on three machines.Note: by "ready" I mean I have new hard drives waiting to be swapped out for the new operating system. Even then some have reported difficulties in downloading security updates.Your best bet would be to use one of your student grand-children to buy Office 2007 Ultimate for £35 from Click here so that you can climb into the 21st century with the latest software. This is what I did. It includes all the Office software including - Microsoft Office Excel 2007- Microsoft Office Word 2007- Microsoft Office Outlook 2007- Microsoft Office Groove 2007- Microsoft Office Access 2007 - Microsoft Office Communicator 2007- Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007- Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007- Microsoft Office OneNote 2007- Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 I have highlighted the programs you mentioned in another post that are important to you.I appreciate you are a devotee of XP - but believe me you will not regret moving up to Windows 7. artist Posted October 19, 2009 Report Share Posted October 19, 2009 I'm looking forward to getting a new computer with W7 in about February or March, when some initial glitches will have been sorted out.I am happy to keep XP on my laptop though - also on (what will be) my old PC - hubby will inherit that one.I have never had a go on Vista - it's just passed me by... Sbrideau Posted October 20, 2009 Report Share Posted October 20, 2009 Windows 7 has been running as good as Vista on my desktop, which means very good, since the Windows XP that came with my computer was all buggy and often crashed. Never had a crash on Vista and Windows 7. Looking forward to getting the Windows 7 64bit to replace the Vista 32bit on my recently upgraded to 4GB RAM laptop, which will probably run faster than my desktop even if it has lower specs.Will try to get student discounts on it though :P. I could not justify the cost of other improvements on a computer that is running perfectly well in every way. I would need to purchase a newer version of Acronis, as the 2009 version is not compatible. I would need a new graphics card, and an updated version of Nero.
