rong
+1 for open office, it is free and a good substitute for Windows office. But I can't see how it counts the letters and words as you go, you have to open and close it as far as I can see (not very far)
D4\/!d
I always used Alt+J for a word count - but that was in MSWord.Try it in OpenOffice - although it might also be Tools > Word Count[late edit] also File > Properties. Click on the Statistics tab. The word count (and other statistics) will appear in the dialog
Boris
why don't you use simple ms word?? It is the most simple, and most reliable software, and available for free too. You can search for your keywords, in the text there.MS Word has never been "free" as far as I am aware ?

Openoffice offers compatibility for MS based software, and is the best alternative to the MS office suite... Also, on the plus-side, its completely free, which is more than I can say about anything Microsoft.
