jpd
This problem I'm having has started to occur with my previous problem...that was solved here on this site. I say this ONLY because I'm sure most people at one time or another have or experienced 'slow' loading pages while surfing the web. I haven't with my laptop and then it started. I do see a pattern with the loading which I'm hoping will help solve the problem.Specs...Windows Vista, Internet Explorer, Norton Antivirus... and a Dell Laptop about 2 years old. When I open up 'any' webpage I get a very familiar thing. The page itself 'looks' loaded in full (to the best of my knowledge it is) but the page 'freezes' and I can't scroll up or down or click on anything (the mouse works during this time...so I can hit the scroll buttons or link buttons..but nothing 'physically' happens). After a few times at moving and clicking with the mouse.... at the very top of the screen where it says...'Whatever webpage I'm on'... internet explorer is not responding'. So...between 20ish seconds and sometimes a full minute...the webpage 'unfreezes' and whatever actions I used the mouse for during the 'freeze' time.. the webpage is trying to catch up so to speak and eventually it does. Bottom line... the computer works, the internet works, everything is working..but everytime I 'surf' the net.. I have to wait patiently about 20 to 60 seconds for the page to 'unfreeze'. And... I don't have much patience. Besides... my computer wasn't doing this in the past.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.An impatient golf professional. Irene
My first guess would be that your Norton is at the root of the problem. Very likely following one of their updates it has changed behaviour, resulting in IE "Not responding". I ditched Norton a long time ago because it was memory hungry and seemed to interfere with just about everything on my PC.May be worth just checking all of the settings to see what it is doing when you surf. -pops-
In addition to Irene's suggestion, have you tried a different browser (Firefox, Opera, Chrome)?I've had a similar problem recently with Firefox. I can't tolerate software messing me about so I've changed my browser to Chrome for a while (possibly permanently).

My friend, self proclaimed computer expert' loves AVAST online antivirus. I just figured...if it's free...it's worthless. So I never gave it a thought. I'm not real 'keen' on how it works. I opened up the program and looked at settings...but I wouldn't know where to begin to 'tinker' with stuff that may actually solve my slow loading pages problem without the fear of jeaopardizing my systme. Irene
Personally, I use MicroSoft Security Essentials along with Windows Firewall - both free of course. Never had any problems at all. Everything happens discretely in the background.Should you decide to dispense with Norton, you will need to download the Norton Removal Tool. Norton is an absolute pain to get rid of! I am sure, that should you decide to remove it, you will have lots of support from the members of WF. :)

Irene
Irene...Do you have an 'antivirus' also running on your computer or just the windows security essential with windows firewall? As -pops- suggests, it would probably be advisable to check if the slow loading happens on an alternative browser, if you have one installed.About Microsoft Security Essentials Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It's easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you're green, you're good. It's that simple. Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times. Free DOWNLOAD hereWindows Vista comes with Windows Firewall, a two-way firewall that is automatically turned on (unless you or Norton have disabled it).As a 'belt and braces' measure, I also have Malwarebytes Free, which I would only run if I had any concerns. :)
jpd
Before making huge alterations to your system, have you tried my suggestion?I have tried both suggestions. First, I removed Norton from my system and turned on Windows Firewall and installed windows security esseintials. I notice a 'small' change in the speed of the computer. It was small.. but noticeable... a little quicker. But not enough to make me content. Then I installed Google Chrome... BINGO! Ligthning Speed. I can't believe the difference between IE and Chrome in terms of speed. It is literally, night and day. Thanks Irene and Pops for both suggestions. :D
danishweb
Well I am writing this post out of solidarity. Your condition is very much similar to mine. The only difference is that you are using Norton and I am ** Antivirus. But tell me one thing, are you using free version? Because this problem is quite common with free version of antivirus program. JacksSmith
There may be several reasons to it. The Norton antivirus acquires too many memory space and time updating from internet. You first need to complete all the start up operations by Windows and Norton or any other application. After all over then you can open your browser and start.
