Not Looking Good For Microsoft

I rather think that the man has hit the nail on the head.

I have always looked upon M$ as rather parasitic. To me it seemed as though it had hoisted itself to the top of the heap by restrictive practices and suspect behaviour rather than by technical merit alone.

Bill Gates' biggest success was his tie up with IBM in the mid 70s.

Well, following the latest turkey of Windows 8, I believe there is a lot in that.

Note that W8 prices are a fraction of what has been charged for the other recent Windows versions - desperation, perhaps?

I have rejected W8 as a pointless time waster and Microsoft will have to do a lot of real innovation work on Windows 9 (or whatever it will be called) to persuade me it's worth buying.

At the expense of you lot thinking me to be a nutter - I consider the article total tosh.

If any of the major IT companies bleed their customers dry - Apple has to take the award. When it comes to restrictive practices, price fixing and repair costs that would make your eyes water - Apple are second to none. For sure they make some fine products and have been innovative - but they are small players compared with Windows based installations in the big scheme of things and they are facing some real competition on hardware by companies such as Samsung.

For sure Micrososft need to get a grip - before it's too late - and they are missing the skills of Bill gates. His replacement is a flop - just about the only part of the article I see eye to eye with.

Microsoft bashing is a sport indulged in by many people - who behind the scenes keep buying their products because the alternatives are not yet fit for their particular purposes.

I use my computer for general record keeping, financial records, internet browsing, Email, forum participation, photo and video editing and integration with my sat-nav for holiday and trip planning. A windows based computer can do all of these things virtually straight out of the box with little fiddling or having to climb a new learning curve.

If I were to change to Linux - a lot of my software would not run or I would have to use inferior alternatives with a high investment in learning time.

Same with changing to an Apple Mac - a high intitial cost and the need to buy a lot of new expensive software. Plus there is no mac version for my chosen sat-nav mapping.

Hence I stick with Windows and accept it aint perfect - but anyway - what is?

Microsoft bashing is not good I agree. I owe my ability to communicate with friends across the globe due to the efforts of Microsoft and AOL.- - - - - Another company that has taken a lot of insults over the years.

Linux has always been lauded as the operating system that just about makes it to the desktop computer but never quite succeeds. New trends such as the "iPad" and "Tablet" are now superseding the desktop computer in popularity and derivatives of Unix O/S and Linux are now coming into their own.

Ubuntu has now launched an operating system / mobile phone partnership with Amazon.

Google / Samsung / Asus have made a very big impact with the Google Android System. ( A derivative of Linux )

Samsung are reported to be pulling away from Google and adopting "Tizen" for their phones. Another Linux derivative.

All of these operating systems have a very small footprint, and allow a high percentage of the general public to do exactly what they want to do. Communicate, Twitter, Facebook, Music, Porn, Photos.

Microsoft's answer for the fast dying desktop is very bloated in comparison to other operating systems now. Just install Windows 8 and see how much space it takes up on your hard disk. Disk space is fairly cheap. But so much bloat ?

I'm not Microsoft bashing. - Just saying is all.

John.
