The match WOULD strike as matches come with their own supply of oxygen in the form of potassium chlorate/nitrate or similar mixed in with the phosphorus sulphide. Of course, as soon as this small supply of oxidant was consumed the fire would be extinguished and everything would proceed as before i.e nothing.
