cinque8
I have a HP Compaq 6515b laptop running Windows Vista. How would I go about accessing my BIOS settings? Thanks
AlanHo
Follow the steps below to configure the boot order on most computers.Turn on or restart the computer. While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.NOTE: The BIOS settings menu is accessible by pressing the f2 or the f6 key on some HP computers... -pops-
Be very careful accessing the BIOS. You can very easily turn your computer into a box of electronic junk if you don't take great care.
cinque8
Thank you for the post Pops. I will definitely follow your advice. Would you mind giving us an example of how one could junk their box if they are not careful? Thanks!
Belatucadrus
The real high risk BIOS (basic input/output system) procedure is updating it, if the procedure works OK then no problem. If anything goes wrong you can corrupt the BIOS and lose all communication with the PC leaving you with an expensive brick. No BIOS no data in or out, you'd probably need a new BIOS chip to get it going again. Updating the BIOS should be a last resort to fix a specific problem. Generally looking at the BIOS settings should be OK, just think long and hard before changing anything. What were you hoping to achieve ? cinque8
Thanks Belatucadrus, originally I was having problems getting my PC to start up, it would just stall. But it seems to be working OK now. Thanks!
