I would take these so-called download speeds with a pinch of salt andsome. Remember they only lease the lines from BT. Look at a Graph od your local download speed available on your line setup for your area on Google to see what I mean.

andsome and I are on Virgin's cable network. I can assure you that the speeds are real - I once compared the download speeds on a friends BT 14 GB line and my 200 GB line at home using my laptop to download the same large file and what took 30 minutes in his house took 130 seconds in mine.

 

I have now downgraded my virgin 200 GB line to 100 GB and cannot tell the difference - except with big downloads, which in my case are rare.

I have no reason to doubt speed testers
