moon
:D Frankly, I don't know where to start, O/S, BIOS, RAID whatever. I just connected up a monitor , keyboard and mouse for it's first run. I got a boot screen with a load of stuff I didn't understand and that ended with 'Boot failure, insert system disc CD'. What's that ? The O/S ?
Guest Grim Reaper
its asking for the os disk in order to install something.......its saying that after checking devices there is nothing for it to do......

moon
It paused on 'Press to install RAID' and I let it run. I've got options now, setup Win 2K or quit. Can I set up RAID later ? What about partitioning the drives ? I've got 2x120Gig and I want to run 'mirroring'.
Guest ellas
quit you want to setup raid first.

moon
OK, I've quit out. I'll pick up on it tomorrow. I had to couple up another keyboard as the new one didn't respond. Probably needs its software installed first.Man, there are some mighty fans in there ! I need a bleedin' scarf ! :D
Guest ellas
moon I hope your not getting paid by the hour :P
moon
:D I can pay myself any way I choose. No-one else is going to. B) Right, I'm back. My evening didn't shape up. Any RAID experts about ? :)I'm guessing that I halt the O/S at 'install RAID' and set it up in the BIOS. I'll be 'mirroring' so it will see my two drives as one. Right ? That will be called 'C'. Once the RAID is set I can continue to load 2K Pro and partition the C drive when its finished ?
Guest ellas
right ok moon did you set the bios to boot from raid, then in the raid bios boot from the cd to install 2000,then setup raid when it asks for the floppy and install 2000,forget about mirroring or arrays you can do that later,if its highpoint raid you can do this in windows with the software provided instead of the bios. moon
I can't set the BIOS boot order to RAID. I've got the choices of Floppy, HDD or CD Rom. I haven't got RAID set up yet. Remember, the mobo is straight out of the box. I haven't loaded any mobo software.
Guest Grim Reaper
you cant load the software until you have loaded an os....
moon
K. How do you access the 'Menu Level' at the right of the BIOS setup ?Also, is 50 degrees an OK running temp. for this XP2700 ?
Guest ellas
well it must be different from mine,I set my bios to boot from raid, save and exit and I get a raid bios where I set it to boot from cd to install o/s,,if you have your h/drive on the raid controllers then you have to boot from them,if you cant find that option just load the o/s and install raid drivers when it asks and when loaded we will see whats what, any idea of the raid controller you have.
