Tony Posted December 12, 2003 Report Share Posted December 12, 2003 Hi allI have just bought a AMD Athlon XP 2.2 MHz for my system. But it does not seem to work :(.My mobo is a ECS K7S5A ver 3.1 which i thought could take upto a 2.4 MHz CPU.The problem i am getting is when i switch the system on, it all seems to be going through it's normal stuff, but i get no picture sent to the monitor. Is this a symptom of the mobo not being able to take a 2.2 chip or could it be another problem?. Guest Grim Reaper Posted December 12, 2003 Report Share Posted December 12, 2003 i dont think that it wouldn't send a picture to your monitor, has the mobo onboard graphics that may need to be disabled before putting in a graphics card?it may also be worth checking that the cable from your monitor to your graphics card is secure at both ends - simple i know but hey, anythings worth a try. Tony Posted December 12, 2003 Author Report Share Posted December 12, 2003 HiIt does not have have onboard graphics, all cables are sucure, and yes it all works fine if i put my old Athlon 1400 back in, as a matter of fact that is what is running now.I have worked on loads of pc's building them and all, but this is the first time i have seen a problem like this, it is just as though the graphics card gets switched off with the 2.2 cpu in.So i am at a loss here, at the moment.Cheers guysTony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tony Posted December 12, 2003 Author Report Share Posted December 12, 2003 HiNope it is a fully automatic mobo the only thing i could change would be in the bios and that would be the FSB 133/133 or 100/100 but as the new cpu runs at the same FSB speed as the old one i don't have to change that.The only jumper on the mobo that i can see is the "Clear CMOS" one.I have already built a few systems with this mobo in and a 2.1 cpu with no problems, but this is the first time i have tried a 2.2 cpu in one.This is a strange one, cos as i said the pc seems to be going through all the motions off booting up, Hdd activite, Cd-rom activite and all that, but just no picture 1zhelp Tony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The graphics card is a G-Force 2 MX 400 64mb and is working fine.Thanks for any help on this.TonyDo you mean a 2.2Ghz or a 2200+ processor and not a 2.2Mhz one.On google your board, with 3.1, will go to a 2600+ which runs at 2.083Ghz.http://www.ecs.com.tw/support/techcpu/athlonxp.htmThe amd processor near your 2.2Ghz, running at 166, is the 2700+ and this will not work in your machine.So if you are trying to use the 2.2Ghz cpu then this may be why it will not work. In the shop they tried it in there test board and got the same problem.But They said that they could not give me a replacement CPU until the faulty one has been sent back to AMD for testing.I said that that is crap.They said that, that is way the it is with AMD, as all there CPUs are tested and rated before they go out, so they want to know what happened to the CPU between them sending it out and me fitting it, this will take between 2-4 weeks.So i guess i will just have to wait to see what they say. My hubby has a computer shop - you know builds, upgrades, repairs etc. I thought that the responsibility lies with the shop BUT - was it a PIB? IE: did it come with an approved heatsink and fan etc & a cert of auth? If so apparently the warranty agreement is with AMD itself. Saying this, as a retailer, we would replace and argue with AMD on your behalf so it's a subjective thing.... mention trading standards perhaps....? Tony Posted January 13, 2004 Author Report Share Posted January 13, 2004 Just updating you all on this matter.After hearing nothing from the shop since i took the CPU back to them on the 13/12/03, i have heard nothing.So today i went into the shop and asked what was going on with it.After them checking on it for about 5 mins, they came back to me and said that because they have not had a delivery from AMD since i gave them the CPU, they have not sent it back yet, "i went mad" :rant :flameThey said that i would have to wait another further 2-3 weeks "YER RIGHT" :angry: I said to them that unless they replaced the CPU NOW or gave me a refund, that i would stand at there door all day and all week if i had to, telling everybody that comes into the shop, what they have done to me, and also tell them all not to shop here. :angry: They did not believe me, "IDIOT'S"I had to tell 5 customers not to shop here, before they gave me a new CPU. :D And i made sure that they tested it before i left :)All the bestTony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
