andsome
The TV people made such a fuss about it. They talked about nothing else for about twenty minutes, then we had the same on the local news. On the local news we were subjected to a tour of several gritting depots, and told all about how prepared they were, the end result was total gridlock for several hours. For heavens sake isn't there anyone old enough in TV to remember the bad winter we had in the sixties, I can't recall off hand the exact year. In the Midlands we had a very large snowfall on boxing day, and then the temperature hardly ever rose above freezing for three months. Several people that I know had to get the water board round to pass an electric current through the mains between the house and the road to thaw out the underground pipes which had frozen. This lot has been nothing, the Scandinavians must be having a good laugh at our expense.

doug
I remenber the 50'2 and 60's. We lived between Vauxhall and Stockwell, in London, then. So cold used to trudge through the snow to The Nine Elms Gas Works with my older brother to buy sacks of coke. Damned heavy things. Really got dirty and cold. :(
