andsome
Thanks for all your [none] help.....I'll repay the favour someday:PShirl.I think most forum members were in bed when you posted Shirl. Everyone is normally very helpful, I'm sure you will get some help when they all wake up.
Sir Radfordin
Indeed bed is where you would have found any normal person at 2am in the morning! The file seems to be wmpupdate.exe which I am guessing is the Windows Media Player Updater so it is quite likey that your AV can't do anything with it because windows is protecting the file.May be worth having a look here:http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4;a...y;threadid=2040http://download.com.com/3302-2239_4-10212719.html?pn=3&fb=
Agent Smith
Good evening Shirley,Unfortunately I was zzzzing away in the land of nod as well.Anyway, I have been having a bit of a trawl for you, and there seems to be some evidence that wmpupdate.exe can be an alternative name for the gaobot worm As Found Here The wmpupdate.exe is also mentioned Here at Computercops with the advice to use Hijack This to fix the problem.I have also got you the links to Norton and MacAfee for details on the gaobot, so you can check the registry enties to see if you are infected.Norton GaobotMacAfee GaobotI hope these help you out.Regards. nellie2
Have you tried turning off system restore and running a virus scan? Although a hijack log won't be a bad idea!
