Has he got a Windows 98 Boot disk?

www.bootdisk.com

Tell him to boot from this disk and at the prompt type:

Fdisk /mbr

Press enter.

There is a space after fdisk.

This should put him back to what he had originally, and he can boot into Windows.

No for modem.

If he has a Full XP disk tell him to boot from and choose R for the Recovery console.

Follow the instructions.

Then type:

fixmbr

Press enter.

This is the XP way of fdisk /mbr.

Andy see my thread here..... I had a problem when I first installed Linux and I did exactly what Powerless suggested and was able to boot into windows again!
