Please all try to keep it sweet, and Admin, and Mod Staff, please let's all try to all understand! If something sees over the Top, in one Country, maybe it is fine in other Countries, ALWAYS!!!! We must consider the Kids!!

In Ausieland we have many sayings and short cuts, Idisms, most Countries have the same, let's be sensable and compare!!

Joe Blake = Snake

Noah's Ark = Shark

Cheese and Kisses= Missus = Wife

Arm and Leg = Head

Rock and Roll = Dole = Unemployment Relief

Rubbibdy Dub = Pub = Hotel

Town Bike = Really bad Girl

Start with those and see how we go!

The costermongers of the East End of London developed a complete language using synonyms, euphemisms and part rhymes. It's called Cockney Rhyming slang. Some examples of it are given by Sparks (above). There are thousand of other examples, many unknown outside of their immediate usership.

 Oh don't remind me..... that happened once when I was about 10 and had gone to the veg shop for some potatoes for my mum...... I was mortified. Luckily I had a fairly long dress on (it went past the knees) and hobbled home with my knees clamped tightly together so they couldn't slither any further!!!!

Hi

Coming from south London, we use a lot of the Cockney Ryming Slang as well, but being from south London (where we cut every thing down we only say the the first word).

Here are a few more.

Rosie Lee = Tea (normally just said as "Rosie")

Gregory Peck = Cheque or Neck (Just said a s "Gregory")

Richard the 3rd = Turd = (same as Eartha Kitt) (Just said as "Richard")

Syrup of Figs = Wig (just said as "Syrup")

Butchers Hook = Look (Just said as "Butchers")

Boat Race = Face (Just said as "Boat")

Ruba Dub = Pub (said as Ruba Dub)

China Plate = Mate (said as "Me old China")

Jack Jones = Alone (Said as "I'm on me Jack"

Adam and Eve = Believe (said as "i don't Adam and Eve it")

Jam Jar = Car (said as "Jam Jar")

Ruby Murray = Curry (said as "Ruby")

Here is a Link full of them, athough a lot of them are modern versions on the older ones.

Here's one that happened to day!!

I went Waltzing with Matilda!!

It means to use a Jack Hammer in an unusual way and get Danced all over the Place!!

We had to cut two holes 18" x 8" in a wall, 12" Thick, reinforced Concrete at ground level, to fit bigger Ventellation units!! Drilling on the side method!!

Believe me, we got Danced all over the place!! Poor young bloke with me, thought all his Worst Nightmares were happening!!

I couldn't stop laughing, I had told him that we were going Waltzing with Matilda before we started, and he thought I was having a Joke!!
