Did anyone know this?

Recommended Posts

I found this out a while ago and was just wondering if anyone else knew....you probably do

but this might be a good tip for some puter newcomers

If you hold ctrl and delete it deletes word at a time rather that letter at a time :)

Quite handy if you need to delete allot of works fast :)

I did know it but, I'm sure there are plenty of people who didn't so it's good that you're letting it be known. There are quite a lot of little tips like that around - problem is that when you try and think of them, you can't. Perhaps there should be a little Hints and Tips section. :)

Another tip to get the ball rolling and nothing directly to do with the first one for people who can't help tinkering and generally messing around with their machines, as well as machine builders.

Place a bit of blue tack on the end of your screwdriver whenever you use it. This way the screw will be held in place and not drop into some inaccessible hole (which sods law says it most definitely will). Safer than magnetic screwdrivers which could be dangerous around magnetically sensitive components (e.g. hard drives) and it works with non-steel screws.

Yes I did know that. I can do almost everything on the computer (in windows anyway) just using the keyboard (first couple of months I used a computer it had no mouse) :D  :D  :D

:) that might be a fun little chalenge.....go a day without using the mouse

When I started using computers, mice (mouses?) weren't invented.

Wow that must have been a long time ago pops

Errr, yes :)

I am of an age that I can remember the first commercial transistor radio. Transistors were so crude in those days that the only designation they had was a red, green or yellow spot to identify them as audio, radio or switching actions. They were in small glass tubes like tiny test tubes with three wires protruding from the end and were painted black to keep out the like. You could make your own photo transistor by taking the paint off. Otherwise they cost nearly £1 each, the spotted transistors were 5/- (five shillings, twenty five pence) which was a lot of money then. Think now that you can get devices with millions of transistors for a few pounds.

Most electronic stuff worked by thermionic tubes (valves).

It isn't really that long ago, in my opinion although you would think it is, no doubt :)

who invented the mouse???

Another good tip for selecting text... especially if you have a lot to select is to double click at the beginning of your selection (the first word will be highlighted). Scroll down to the end of your selection and press and hold down the shift key then click ..... everything should then be highlighted. :)
