Bluecow Posted June 27, 2004 Report Share Posted June 27, 2004 I've just bought a 9600xt which I've put into my gigabyte GA-7zxe board holding a 1.3 duron with a 400 watt power supply. For some reason after playing UT2004 for a while the computer will just switch off. I can switch it back on after approx 5 mins and aida tells me the chip temp is 55c ( I've had it over 65 with no probs :shutup: )Is it a simple case that it's overheating - if so what, the card or chip? I've got 2 rear fans another pushing air to the back from the front and I've got a exhaust fan(not plugged in I thought that might be the problem) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Agent Smith Posted June 27, 2004 Report Share Posted June 27, 2004 Bluecow, if the temperature is being reported as 55 degrees after the machine has been off for 5 mins, then I would expect it to have been considerably hotter when it turned off.I think you are going to have to try and monitor the temperature at the time of the crash. I am sure there are people here who can recommend what to use to do this.It may also be that the graphics card is possibly overheating, so you will need to monitor that as well. Bluecow Posted July 8, 2004 Author Report Share Posted July 8, 2004 O.K. back nowGot really harrased and took the pc down the shop.Chap down there said it was a combination of things: dust, power supply and heatsink.So now I have a clean board a whopping heatsink and a 550watt power supply. gonna try it out tonight fingers crossed. Bluecow Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Share Posted July 11, 2004 Yeah I got my power supply back and my cpu cooler back to.No overdrive feature on my card with the newest cats installed. i think where it's a cheaper card this feature is missing.There's no way I'm going near the voltage in the BIOS :lol: Cheers for the advice I'll give it a bash on Tuesday night.
