Chris
I have a feeling it's about to be released, we'll probably all be sleeping when Microsoft releases it but i think it's nearly time looking at some other forums.EDIT#1: Although I could be wrong...EDIT#2: ...and if you don't live in the UK then we'll probably all be sleeping when Microsoft releases it might not apply. -pops-
This is now on Windows Update:What can you do now to ensure you get Windows XP Service Pack 2? The best way to get Windows XP Service Pack 2 is by using the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP. Visit the Protect Your PC site to let us turn it on for you or follow three manual steps—either way you’ll get Service Pack 2 automatically as Microsoft releases it. Turning on Automatic Updates today allows your PC to begin downloading important updates automatically, including the latest version of Windows Update. It also ensures you will receive future updates, such as Service Pack 2.

These didn't come through in my quote.

christmascracker
So what do you think?Wait for the disc or turn on the auto? What are other people doing?I dont like using the automatic updates either, I like to know what I'm installing. As soon as it's released I'll download it though as I've got True Image to fall back on if anything goes wrong.Quite exciting really
-pops-
I'm waiting a few weeks.XP is not going to suddenly collapse and die on me but SP2 might. I've seen Windows updates cause huge problems before - like SP1 in some machines.OK, MS may have given huge trials to this but that cannot represent mass use - much like trials on pharmaceuticals cannot properly repesent what they will be like when on general release. What's particularly off putting are all the delays and withdrawals that have taken place during beta testing. Makes me very cautious.

Scarecrow Man
SP2 has automatic updates on by default, and if you turn it off, you get a nice yellow (or red) shield in your taskbar with a tooltip that pops up.. Better to just turn 'em on :)

djohn
Mine is set for auto downloads/Manual install. This way I get the latest downloads immediately but the option to view them before install. SP2 will be downloaded as soon as it's released.

I'm not having any of that :censored: :D By the time I download it, there should be plenty of info available on how to turn such things off. :)
Scarecrow Man
I think everyone is trying to figure this out, but really.. I don't think you can disable it without the shield there..The purpose of SP2 was for users who know generally nothing about security and must have big flashing signs pointing them in the right direction. I haven't seen anything about turning it off, but you can check out this site. There is links along the right side for navigation.
