I'm about to take the plunge and build my own , some games and video editing to be done.

I've almost decided on the following, but would like opinions from the experts.

case

CPU

Graphics

motherboard

I currently have for reuse (down grade the old system to as original)

Floppy and Cd rom

2 samsung 120 spinpoint ide hdd

Nec DVDRW-/+ dual layer

and spare DDR memory to go

Will I have to run the 2Hd as a raid setup, or can I stick to my present config for HD on 1 ide, DVD/Cdrom on 2nd ide, any advantages to running raid set up for my use ?

South Bridge:

2 x UltraDMA 100

2 x Serial ATA

Promise 20378 RAID controller:

1 x UltraDMA 133 support two hard drives

2 x Serial ATA

RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, Multiple RAID

Comments, anything obvious I've overlooked ?

Thanks for the comments folks,

I currently have 512mb DDR spare, (Crucial, in antistatic bags) which will get me up and running, and can "borrow" another 512 to check how much difference it makes.

The NEC is DVD/CD etc

I like the P4, not yet been able to cook one, the AMD64 bit technology not yet fully settled down and the apps I will use in the near future don't require 64bit.

As for the SP2/prescott problems, I have XP and SP1 slipstreamed and XP and SP2 slipstreamed, I'll load XP/SP2 1st if it gets a problem, simple enough to format and start again.

Any further comments ?

Beginning to put things together, and come to the USB headers, the manual has

post-5-1095579451_thumb.jpg

The connectors from the front (2 pairs )USB ports are labelled

GND1 GND2

VCC1 VCC2

Data+1 Data+2

Data-1 Data-2

I'm assuming these will connect as follows

GND1(2) = GND (obviously)

VCC1(2) = USB+5v (6,7,8)

Data+1(2) = USB_P5+ (etc)

Data-1(2) = USB_P5- (etc)

Can anyone confirm my thinking ?
