Not complaining as I'm glad just to be able to log in anyway. I think the problem may have started when WF was just about coming back on stream. I had to have several goes as I couldn't get in as doug so I tried doug VEM with my normal password. Now when I log in using the top right hand box I put d in the box and both choices are shown, If I click on doug the stars appear in the password box, click go and I get the not recognise message. If, however, I type my password in the I am logged in normally. How do I get shot of the doug VEM data. Should I click on the "delete cookies set by this board" on the bottom right of the main page or does this refer to something else?

Doug,

As I reported on another thread I had a similar problem.

I resolved it by using Windows Explorer to browse through my cookies folder - and then I deleted all the windows forum cookies.

The next time I logged in I had to enter my user name and password - clicked on "remember me" and all has been OK since.

After I did it - I noticed on the windows forum main page towards the bottom of the page a link stating "delete all cookies for this board" or words to that effect. This might do the same job - but I am not sure.

Hope this helps.

It would seem that all is not well, Doug. When I come in, (no trouble, auto log on works fine for me) and I click on My Assistant I get a copy of the original screen in a full depth side window/pop-up sort of thing. Also the opening page seems to be "different" but I can not just put my finger on what it is. I'm just pleased that it's back. It will no doubt settle down as the experts tweak it a bit more.

I never need to log on, probably because I never log off, I just use the X in the top right hand corner. What does puzzle me is the fact that as several have reported, we all seem to see different versions of the forum, with some members having buttons that others do not. Just what does happen if we delete cookies from this board?

I suspect it may have a lot to do with cookies (speaking from the depth of my ignorance). I used to browse WF using IE, with most cookies disabled, but following glowing reports, from hereabouts, about Firefox I now use that. I have not meddled too much with its cookie settings. Using IE I had to log in every time however I left the scene. Now,using Firefox, I just click on my favourites button for WF and I am in. Never the less odd things happen , like the my assistant mentioned above.

You can certainly run it in parallel.

Sometimes, on my son's machines when he's web checking, he has IE, Firefox, Netscape, Opera and others all open at the same time.

I often have three or so Firefox windows and Netscape open at the same time plus IE if I have a site that will only work on that (e.g some MS sites).

You use it very much like IE - a lot is intuitive if you're familiar with IE.

I am in the "See no buttons" club when browsing the gallery.

I have tried deleting all the WF cookies on my computer and have hit the link on the first page of the Forum to "delete all the cookies set by this board".

Still no buttons though - so it does not appear that the problem is cookie related.

Well 2 things. Ran Spybot and found 15 entries which were fixed. Things seemed to be a bit quicker than before. In addition have loaded Firefox, as recommended and have logged in with that. At least this time it offered to save my password which I have accepted. Now whether this was due to Firefox or Spybot cleared a bug I'll never know. Tonight I'll run a Hijack and offer for comments. Still it looks like progress. Have to go out to the garden and continue shifting compost. Thanks pops.

Good God. How do I slow down my running image, it's going like a streak of lightening :o
