suggest the best antivirus/firewall program

Recommended Posts

I've used AVG for many years now and have no complaints about it. After feeling a slight guilt about using the free version for so long, I now have the paid for one.

Regarding firewalls, I now use Sygate. Again it works unobtrusively. I did use Outpost but on an update once, it told me that I had to pay to continue to use it. I didn't think it was that impressive in what it did so I changed. I have no complaints about the one I now use, Sygate.

I've tried most of them at one time or another, Firewalls - I find Sygate to be really good, after setting it up I don't even know it's there. It quietly does what it's supposed to do.

Antivirus -I've tried most of them out there but keep coming back to Norton AV.

It's a personal choice really, most of us have out favourites.

For the best detection rate, Kaspersky is widely known to cover most malware. For free, I would suggest Avast.

For firewall, if it's your first firewall I would use Sygate, but if you have already used a firewall, then I suggest Kerio 2.1.5 :)

I read a lab test fairly recentley in PC pro i think that put Norton at the top for virus detection with something like 98% of viruses detected, more recentley in the sept issue PC world it won the best buy award for there new 2004 edition.

Personally I use Avg because its free, If your not the sort to spend a lot of time on P2P networks or other less wholesome parts of the internet its fine. It really depends how paranoid you are and how much you want to pay
