MSJava does have many security holes, but if users keep up-to-date with windows updates, they should be a bit more protected. Sun Java on the other hand is much more stable and has very few security holes. This is what makes it the Java of choice for many users. Kirk Posted November 25, 2004 Report Share Posted November 25, 2004 i also found out they have a ver 5 runtime you can get. i asked in another thread about this. i have the 06 installed now and i went ahead and got the ver 5 installed too. both 06 and ver 5 show up in add/remove. now then, do i need to delete the 06 before i install the ver 5 or leave them. i ask cuz very soon i'll get my new os from newegg and install it and want to know which one i need or should use. and another question, how do i remove the ms virtual machine? or should i just not bother and run the sun java without gettin rid of msvm? From the Start menu, select Run. 2. Enter the commandRunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall to start the uninstall process 3. Click Yes to the confirmation, then select Reboot. 4. Kirk Posted November 27, 2004 Report Share Posted November 27, 2004 well scarecrow i got my new os installed and all was fine. hadnt got the java thing yet. i was on another forum reading a thread and linked out to sun java about some stuff clearing the java cache. and after the page loaded up i got a popup from ms. dont remember what it said. i sent the report to ms and then i got another one from drwatson for something. it froze after sending the report. i hit task manager to close the page it cleared off the task man. but page was still up on screen. it froze. i had to hit reset button to get back up. so i tried what you said about the rundll32 line and it comes up saying that it could not find that line. so im guessing i dont even have a java runing. is this what my prob. is now? im dl/d another install copy of the ver 5 runtime right now . i have it and am goin to run the install. hope this is what i need to do. if i cant get it to find that line im guessing its not on there already. get back to me as quick as you can on this please,thanks, scott Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

nellie2 Posted November 27, 2004 Report Share Posted November 27, 2004 I can't understand why you are having problems, I reformatted the other week and reloaded my o/s. I have an older copy of XP with no service packs, so I just loaded SP2 straight away and then followed the instructions here for uninstalling MS VM. Because I didn't load SP1 there was nothing much to uninstall. I got an error message when doing step one... so I then moved on to step two... not all the entries were there so I just deleted the folders that were there, then I moved on to step three.. again, if the key wasn't there I didn't worry about it.I then went to the Sun site and downloaded and installed SunJava with no problems at all.ps....
